Whitmare House
108 West Ninth Street (at Locust Street)
Atlantic, Iowa 50022-2004

Designer unknown, 1917

A stucco cube with side entrance based on Wright’s Fireproof House for $5000. Of considerable interest for the fidelity, at least on the exterior, to Wrightian ideals, its distance from centers of Prairie School architecture, and the enigma of its authorship. Note the flat eaves with built-in gutters, and the non-Wright-approved location of the chimney mass.
